| Card transactions, be it credit/debit, fare collection, access control, gaming, etc. occur when the card's magnetic band and the reader's magnetic head make contact. Climatic variations, humidity, vibration, high contact pressure, dirt, and abrasives, limit the life of the magnetic heads in any application but particularly in high traffic applications such us ATMs, fare collection (subway, buses, etc.), and MICR (Magnetic Ink Check Reader) readers. Implementing an appropriate technical cleaning program will extend the life the heads but eventually they need to be replaced.
